Review by Ruud Maas

Exactly ten years, he is in this place, exactly twenty years after he had held the top spot on the charts with a hitherto little-known waltz than ten weeks and would continue. In the top ten a year
The success of Andre Rieu has risen to incomprehensible proportions, and the 64-year-old from Maastricht Friday proved again why he can count. Itself to the international top In almost 3.5 consecutive hours, he gave his Johann Strauss Orchestra, but especially his soloists every opportunity to excel. Musically
The rendition of I belong to me (from the musical Elisabeth) by Australian singer Mirusia Louwerse rivailing Caro nome from Rigoletto by Verdi) by Carla Maffioletti were the Highlights of the evening, both two voices are just about the most beautiful that have ever sounded at t the Vrijthof.

Of course – there are real critics alike – is what Rieu in 2014 does not differ from the perplexing mannerisms and entertainment tricks he used for the first time at the Vrijthof in 2005. But ones that blinks, that silly jokes, jokes that his band members and almost cult-like costumes and sets that give a show of Rieu much gravy. Why would your key to success then bugger into a pit?

Well, the orchestra leader preaches that the world would be like if we could sing all together along quite different and that even doctors write him because Rieu’s DVDs, according to them, the best medicine for healing – that is all there just what too obvious. But the violinist with his concerts a large audience imparts sound knowledge of (popular) classical music, which is just a plus.
