Carla Maffioletti is Erudite’s most Pop of Brazil

In one of the funniest moments of the show Dutch violinist André Rieu and popstar, the Porto Alegre Maffioletti Carla takes the stage with a pink dress, lilac two loops on the head and a red ball painted on each cheek. With his voice to the coloratura soprano tessitura sharper lyrical singing, she plays the aria of the doll Olympia, the opera The Tales of Hoffmann, Jacques Offenbach French (1819 – 1880).

Grimaces, mannerisms mechanical toy and a flawless vocal performance make Carla conquer the audience once, twice, 24 times. That was the number of presentations of Dutch Rieu with the Johann Strauss Orchestra in Ibirapuera Gymnasium between May and July. The show returns for a new season in São Paulo 11-16 September. There is no estimate of scale in Rio Grande do Sul

It is the first time that Rieu performs in Brazil, and the first time Carla shines in homeland following the artist that lifted the worldwide repercussions. With musicians smiling, dressed in colorful costumes, the charismatic rallies Rieu fans wherever they go – most of white hair, as noted in the article by Donna one of the presentations in the state capital.

It was this picture that Carla found her sitting at the piano in a studio Dutch in 2000 when, at age 26, held a test at the suggestion of fellow conservatory. On arrival, was surprised by cameras and microphones – production usually record the scenes of everything. Rieu asked to sing the Bolero of Ravel, and a melody track from the animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Was endorsed and participated in several concerts the choir for three months. Two years later, back in Porto Alegre, received an unexpected call.

– Carla, do you remember me?

Rieu was, himself, inviting her to join a new tour, this time as one of the soloists. Since then, Carla has been featured in concerts and recordings. In a hotel lounge in Sao Paulo where he hosted alongside the cast and production of André Rieu, the soprano explains gaucho, with a soft voice and a gentle smile always on his face:

– When was officially started my career as a soloist. Rieu was my window to the international market.

Carla is a restless artist. It will be part of the cast of an assembly opera Satyricon, the contemporary Italian composer Bruno Maderna (1920 – 1973), from February to April 2013 in Lucerne, Switzerland. Earlier, on September 30 this year, will release first solo album, Blue Bird, with distribution in Holland and Germany. The list of songs brings classic European tradition, such as the Aryan Muzeta opera La Bohème, Puccini (1858-1924), and Casta Diva from Norma by Bellini (1801 – 1835), and the Brazilian repertoire, as the Cantilena ‘s Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 by Villa-Lobos (1887-1959), and The Bluebird, Jayme Ovalle (1894-1955), who inspired the English title. Instead of singing accompanied by an orchestra usual, she says, on disk, with the Dutchman The Strings ensemble, with mandolins, guitars and bandolas. It’s a familiar universe for Carla, who also plays guitar in the group. It’s a way to practice their second musical passion, the guitar, an instrument that specializes in undergraduate in Music Arts Institute of UFRGS.

After the passing of fun working with the orchestra of Andre Rieu, the gaucho also conquered space in traditional circuit scholar. Between 2009 and 2011 he was a soloist of the State Opera of Giessen, Germany, attending assemblies The Magic Flute, Mozart (1756-1791) and The Tales of Hoffmann, Offenbach, among others. Is there distrust of the universe austere scholarly work with popular appeal that she develops with Rieu?

– At first I thought the two worlds did not communicate. I was surprised with the reception to my work. But in truth the opera also benefits from this media. The producers want to see the opera theater full, the audience have fun.

Carla ended up in Maastricht, in the Netherlands, where he lives today, at the hands of the teacher Mya Besselink. It was because of the desire to have a master class with which she opened the other hand he received two invitations: one to study singing in the United States and one in Germany. Before, in Brazil, was a pupil of the celebrated singer Paulo Neyde Thomas, who died in 2011, aged 81, in Curitiba. Still living in Porto Alegre, Carla traveled at least one weekend per month for Curitiba.

The vocation was always present, and there is only so to say. The mother is a teacher specializing in the role of music in education and became a teacher Carla. The father is also music lover, though not professional.

– A dedication to the corner was relatively late – remember the mother, Leda Maffioletti, professor at the School of Education at UFRGS. – Gradually, Carla was picking his repertoire just the arias I heard in her pregnancy. When he went to Holland to study opera singing, gave her gift with the old cassette recordings. I did not give advice; cried a lot.

Despite the nostalgia, the daughter does not plan to return from Europe, the desired destination for nine from 10 Brazilian singers.

– There is more work options in comparison with Brazil – Carla justified. – But it is a daily job. You must be always in the market, showing the face, auditioning. Europe will not solve all your problems. It is dedication, discipline.

Married, no children, she is reserved in relation to personal life. His philosophy of life is clear: the rigor of the profession should not overlap the pleasure of living.

– When I wake up early, I love. Not so much – laughs, explaining that some concerts end late. – I have a superamiga that says: “There are people who lives to sing.” But I sing for a living. I love my work, I enjoy traveling, doing wonderful projects, but also want to have time to relax, to personal life.

Between late November and early December 2011, Carla visited the Capital to attend two concerts with the Symphony Orchestra of Porto Alegre and to deliver a masterclass in UFRGS. A warm welcome from fellow took her by surprise.

– Came an avalanche of people to talk to me. It was impressive. I thought: “Our Lady, I’m even known?” – Recalls, smiling.

And returned to Maastricht with certainty that became a benchmark for aspiring young opera career in the country. Carla is a rising star. As the doll Olympia, just winding that will be ready for the next.
