Together with the brazilian pianist Ivan Pires, Carla Maffioletti will perform the Recital Al Amor in Nice, France and Conwy, UK. On the repertoire Heitor Villa-Lobos, Cláudio Santoro, Waldemar Henrique, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Joaquín Rodrigo, Fernando Obradors, and at the heart of the program the European première of Carla Maffioletti’s song cycle The Flight of the Firefly.

Ópera de compositora brasileira Carla Maffioletti tem estréia mundial na Holanda

Pássaro do Paraíso é a ópera de um ato com música e libreto em português originais da compositora e cantora brasileira  Carla Maffioletti.

Teve sua estréia mundial em Setembro de 2022 no teatro De Maaspoort em Venlo e Munttheater em Weert, Holanda. 

A ópera foi escrita durante a pandemia em 2020 e conta a história do pássaro Ara que perdeu sua  morada em um fogo fulminante que destruiu a floresta. Sua tristeza foi tão grande que perdeu as forças para voar e foi deixada para trás dentre as cinzas e chamas da destruição. Com a ajuda de figuras mitológicas da tradição indígena  como Curupira e Lua e Uirapurú, Ara consegue recuperar novamente a esperança,  e ao ouvir o pássaro mágico Uirapurú pede que o verde retorne. o Pássaro atende seu pedido e a floresta renasce, todos cantam o Canto da Terra “ laiá-laiê”, tomada pela alegria coletiva,  Ara consegue voar finalmente.

O papel da Ara foi cantado pela própria compositora, a  soprano coloratura  Carla Maffioletti, que costura  o drama da obra entre árias e duetos ensembles  com os outros personagens. 

A direção cênica também foi assinada pela compositora, um espetáculo com de lindas ilustrações pintadas e animadas pela artista holandesa Moniek op den Camp, e figurinos com colaboração com as mulheres nativas do Brasil da arte Shavorã.  

A ópera foi escrita para orquestra, coro e três solistas, tento a peculiaridade do personagem Curupira ser um papel declamado por um Rapper.  Na estréia de ópera este papel foi feito por  Nitro Di que possui uma das carreiras precursoras do Hip-hop no sul do Brasil e teve tua performance transmitida nas telas dos teatros Holandeses diretamente do Brasil. 

O papel da Lua para soprano lírico foi cantado pela cantora alemã Jutta Maria Böhnert em  sua bela ária “a Lua no céu não vê solidão”.

Um dos momentos especiais na ópera acontece com a participação do coro, que recria com efeitos sonoros percussivos os sons da chuva e logo após número à  capela “coro das cinzas”onde cantam a mensagem ecológica que é um dos temas principais da ópera cantando “a terra, o homem, o bicho, proteja a vida, planeta, abrigo”! 

A orquestra teve a direção musical do maestro holandês Martijn Pepels com a orquestra Heritage Sinfonietta, e a obra foi aclamada  com muito sucesso pelo público.

A ópera Pássaro do Paraíso possui uma mensagem ecológica muito  forte, um grito da natureza exaltando sua beleza e clamando por sua proteção, e mais que tudo,  evoca a esperança  e a força da  auto superação. 

Opera by Brazilian composer Carla Maffioletti has world premiere in the Netherlands

Bird of Paradise is a one-act opera with original Portuguese music and libretto by Brazilian singer and songwriter Carla Maffioletti.

It had its world premiere in September 2022 at De Maaspoort theater in Venlo and Munttheater in Weert, Netherlands.

The opera was written during the pandemic in 2020 and tells the story of the Ara bird who lost his home in a withering fire that destroyed the forest. Her sadness was so great that she lost the strength to fly and was left behind among the ashes and flames of destruction. With the help of mythological figures from the indigenous tradition  such as Curupira and Lua and Uirapurú, Ara manages to regain hope, and upon hearing the magic bird Uirapurú asks for green to return. the Bird grants her request and the forest is reborn, everyone sings the Canto da Terra “laiá-laiê”, taken by collective joy, Ara finally manages to fly.

The role of Ara was sung by the composer herself, the coloratura soprano, Carla Maffioletti, who stitches together the drama of the work between arias and ensembles duets with the other characters.

The scenic direction was also signed by the composer, a show with beautiful painted and animated illustrations by the Dutch artist Moniek op den Camp, and costumes in collaboration with the native Brazilian women of Shavoã art.

The opera was written for orchestra, choir and three soloists, I try the peculiarity of the character Curupira to be a role recited by a Rapper. In the opera premiere, this role was played by Nitro Di, who has one of the precursor careers of Hip-hop in southern Brazil and had his performance broadcast on screens in Dutch theaters directly from Brazil.

The role of the Moon for lyrical soprano was sung by the German singer Jutta Maria Böhnert in her beautiful aria “the moon in the sky sees no loneliness”.

One of the special moments in the opera happens with the participation of the choir, which recreates with percussive sound effects the sounds of rain and right after the a cappella number “choir of ashes” where they sing the ecological message that is one of the main themes of the opera singing “the earth, man, animal, protect life, planet, shelter”!

The orchestra was musically directed by the Dutch conductor Martijn Pepels with the Heritage Sinfonietta orchestra, and the work was highly acclaimed by the public.

The opera Bird of Paradise has a very strong ecological message, a cry from nature extolling its beauty and crying out for its protection, and above all, it evokes hope and the strength of self-overcoming.
